The 31-year-old is currently available after leaving Rangers this summer, following a four-year stint with the club. His connection with one of Blackburn’s other summer signings, Todd Cantwell, who also played for Rangers, might make him an even more appealing option.
Roofe has previously demonstrated his goal-scoring ability in the Championship, having hit double figures in the division in two separate seasons for Leeds United. His experience in English football could also be valuable for Blackburn, as he could help the club’s new international forwards, Ohashi and Gueye, adapt to the demands of this level.
In defence, while Blackburn Rovers appear to be well-covered, there’s an argument that adding another option wouldn’t hurt.
If Dom Hyam or Hayden Carter were to suffer an injury at centre-back, relying on the veteran alternatives, Danny Batth or Kyle McFadzean, for an extended period could be a challenge. Additionally, with Eustace’s preference for rotating between two and three centre-backs, the squad may lack the necessary depth to maintain this flexibility with only four senior options.
At right-back, Leo Duru, who has just begun his senior career this season, is the only natural backup to Callum Brittain.
Given this, Reggie Cannon could be a valuable addition, as he is capable of playing both centre-back and right-back, addressing two potential issues with a single signing.
The American international recently terminated his contract with QPR, just a year after joining the club on a four-year deal from Boavista, following a controversial exit from the Portuguese side. His familiarity with the Championship from his time at Loftus Road could be an additional asset for Blackburn if they decide to strengthen their defensive options further.
