BREAKING NEWS: Kemar Roofe features: 2 free agents Blackburn Rovers should still be looking to sign

Overall, many Blackburn Rovers supporters seem pleased with how their team’s summer transfer window unfolded. There were some notable departures, including last season’s Championship Golden Boot winner Sammie Szmodics, who was sold to Ipswich Town. Additionally, experienced forward Sam Gallagher moved to Stoke City, and 2023 summer signings Semir Telalovic and Leo Wahlstedt were also sold after just a year at Ewood Park.

However, on the incoming front, Blackburn had a productive window, bringing in nine new first-team players to strengthen John Eustace’s squad.

Makhtar Gueye, Yuki Ohashi, Danny Batth, Andreas Weimann, Balasz Toth, and Todd Cantwell all joined the club on permanent deals. Meanwhile, Owen Beck, Lewis Baker, and Amario Cozier-Duberry arrived on loan from Liverpool, Stoke, and Brighton, respectively.

As a result, Rovers now appear to have a much stronger squad than last season.

If Blackburn still wants to add further depth to their squad, they have the option of exploring the free agent market, with unsigned players still available for recruitment.

With that in mind, here are two free agents Blackburn Rovers might want to consider now that the transfer window has closed, including Kemar Roofe.

In defence, while Blackburn Rovers appear to be well-covered, there’s an argument that adding another option wouldn’t hurt.

If Dom Hyam or Hayden Carter were to suffer an injury at centre-back, relying on the veteran alternatives, Danny Batth or Kyle McFadzean, for an extended period could be a challenge. Additionally, with Eustace’s preference for rotating between two and three centre-backs, the squad may lack the necessary depth to maintain this flexibility with only four senior options.

At right-back, Leo Duru, who has just begun his senior career this season, is the only natural backup to Callum Brittain.

Given this, Reggie Cannon could be a valuable addition, as he is capable of playing both centre-back and right-back, addressing two potential issues with a single signing.

The American international recently terminated his contract with QPR, just a year after joining the club on a four-year deal from Boavista, following a controversial exit from the Portuguese side. His familiarity with the Championship from his time at Loftus Road could be an additional asset for Blackburn if they decide to strengthen their defensive options further.
