Reports suggest that several Premier League clubs are interested in taking Newcastle United left-back Matt Targett on loan. Graeme Bailey of TBR Football mentions that former clubs Fulham and Southampton, as well as Nottingham Forest and Brentford, are among the interested parties.
With two years remaining on his contract and both Lewis Hall and Lloyd Kelly ahead of him in the squad, it seems logical for Newcastle to consider moving him on before the transfer window closes.
Targett, who was signed from Aston Villa for £15 million in 2022, has lost his starting position and has faced multiple injuries, including a serious hamstring injury during last year’s Carabao Cup win against Manchester United and an Achilles issue earlier this year.
After beign on the bench for Newcastle’s 1-0 win over Southampton last weekend, Targett played 45 minutes alongside Kieran Trippier in the Magpies’ PL2 match against Sunderland on Monday, which ended in a 1-1 draw.
