Breaking News: Offer made: Celtic receive approach for £8,600-a-week player who Ange Postecoglou admired

An update from Sky Sports journalist Anthony Joseph states that Celtic has received an offer for a player who Ange Postecoglou loved while serving as manager.

News of a Celtic move

The Hoops are getting ready to defend their Scottish Premiership title once more, but Brendan Rodgers will understand the value of bolstering his team in order to both fend off the threat posed by rival Rangers and ensure that they have the greatest possible roster for the Champions League.

Celtic is expected to pursue Burnley center-back Dara O’Shea. Other rumours include that Wolves left-back Hugo Bueno, former Hops striker Adam Idah, and Royal Antwerp star Michel-Ange Balikwisha are other targets.

The Scottish powerhouses are thought to have taken a fresh tack in their pursuit of Bueno, viewing him as an exceptional option to provide quality at left-back.

Tanner Tessman, an American international who is presently playing for recently promoted Serie A team Venezia, has also been linked to a move to Celtic during the current transfer window. Although he has just earned one cap for his nation, he will be looking to make more of an impression before the 2026 World Cup.

Postecoglou’s favorite player might leave Celtic

Taking to X, Sky Sports writer Joseph stated that Stephen Welsh, 24, may leave this summer due to interest from English Championship clubs, as Celtic has received a loan bid for the Belgian player from KV Mechelen:

Given his recent lack of playing time, it actually seems like the perfect time for Welsh to be, if not permanently, transferred away from Celtic and placed on loan elsewhere. The defender played in just five games in the Scottish Premiership last season, five of which came from the bench. However, he missed a significant amount of time due to an ankle injury.

Although Rodgers may not think much of the center-back at Parkhead, he may be a nice addition for another team. In the previous season, he averaged 2.8 successful aerial duels per game, which was the fifth-best total in the squad. Postecoglou even praised him once, saying the following about him:

Welsh has made significant progress. That’s what I anticipate from every player. He returned for the preseason and put in a lot of effort. We’re putting out a challenge to him to improve. He has undoubtedly improved from the previous year, and maybe he is aware that we’ll be pushing for even more from him.”

Moving away would probably be in everyone’s best interests because the £8,600-per-week Welshman has never started more than 10 league games in a season for Celtic, which says volumes about his squad status.
