Breaking News: Portsmouth CEO provides key transfer update and reveals when signings will be announced

'Very well' - Portsmouth CEO provides key transfer update and reveals when signings will be announced

According to Andy Cullen, Pompey’s summer hiring preparations are “very well” underway.

The Blues plan to open preseason play with a number of fresh personnel in the building. However, the chief executive of the Fratton Park club acknowledged that no information will be released to the public until Friday, June 14, when the transfer window opens.

Pompey are eager to adhere to this approach because they understand that nothing is certain until the transfer period really begins.

In June of last year, Blues supporters were greeted with a plethora of new arrivals as Will Norris, Christian Saydee, Conor Shaughnessy, Terry Devlin, and Anthony Scully were revealed as Pompey players just hours after the summer transfer market opened.

The Fratton supporters might be treated to it once more this year, especially because John Mousinho is eager to have most of his team available for preseason testing on Thursday, June 27, and the start of training on Monday, July 3.

Rich Hughes, the sporting director, and Mousinho are both now on vacation. However, Cullen said, “Yeah, very well,” when asked by BBC Radio Solent how summer recruitment was progressing. With the play-off final on Saturday and the Championship play-off final the following weekend, it is evident that the League One season is still unfinished.

However, we’ve had a lot of goals and talks in place for a few months now, and recruitment is a continuous process that doesn’t end when the transfer window opens or closes.

Hence, there are a tonne of talks and talks. Before the season ended, we determined a number of targets. While on vacation, Rich and John are attempting to unwind, and it seems like they are never without their phones. That has always been the case with regard to the summer transfer window and hiring, so maybe some consistent improvement will begin to show.

“Wherever possible, we have tried to bring in a number of new faces in time for the start of pre-season, as that worked well for us last year.” We’re eager to do the same for the 2024–2025 campaign.

Before Pompey’s return to the Championship, a hectic transfer window is anticipated. Ten players have been notified they are free to leave the team this summer, and departures for Joe Morrell and Zak Swanson are also a genuine possibility. Fourteen new players were brought in during the summer, but Hughes and Mousinho have not yet disclosed the number of additions that will be made this year.

Cullen will be at the centre of those deals in his capacity as chief executive. He went on to explain why supporters would have to wait for formal announcements of the new arrivals.

“Until the window opens, nothing is certain,” the CEO declared. There are techniques to close transactions, but since anything might happen, it’s quite challenging to make a proper announcement.

Thus, all you want to do is safeguard yourself and make sure that nothing you do could accidentally warn a rival. We executed that rather well the previous year, wrapping up some of the deals well before the window opened. This year, it will remain the same.
