Peter Martin has expressed doubts about Philippe Clement and Todd Cantwell’s relationship at Rangers, saying that “something might be amiss.”
Speaking on PLZ Soccer’s The Football Show on May 14, Martin brought up the possibility that Cantwell and Clement might not get along, citing earlier rumours between the pair. The former Norwich City player was named among the replacements and did not participate in last week’s Old Firm loss against Celtic.
Though Cantwell made an impact in the second half of Tuesday’s (May 14) game at Ibrox against Dundee, there are still concerns over his long-term future in the team.
Martin said, “I wonder if Todd Cantwell is part of a developing story? Something is wrong if you are unable to enter the park for that game, not even as a substitute.
Ibrox has a contract with Cantwell that runs through the summer of 2026.
This summer, will Todd Cantwell remain with the Rangers?
It is unclear what Cantwell’s future holds after spending the last eighteen months in Scotland.
The midfielder’s career in English football was at a crossroads when he made the transfer, and it marked the beginning of a new chapter in which he has already won awards in addition to the chance to play football in Europe, which is a draw for many English players who relocate north of the border.
According to rumours, Clement may need to bring in up to 12 significant new players in order to challenge Celtic the next season. Complete squad overhauls have also been suggested.
