Rangers Women have reacted to their heavy Champions League defeats by securing Charlie Devlin on loan from Birmingham City.
The club confirmed the 26-year-old’s loan move on X (12 September), noting that the deal was pending international clearance. Devlin becomes Rangers’ sixth signing of the season.
Her arrival at Broadwood Stadium follows Jo Potter’s side suffering a 6-0 loss to Arsenal and a 3-0 defeat to Atletico Madrid in the Champions League qualifiers.
Despite winning all five of their Scottish Women’s Premier League 1 matches so far, Potter has strengthened her attack with the addition of Devlin.
The signing highlights the disparity between Rangers and Europe’s elite. While they lead SWPL 1 with five wins, scoring 43 goals without conceding, their European exits illustrate the gap between leagues in Scotland and England.
Bringing in Devlin, from a mid-table team in England’s second tier, reflects the limited transfer market Scottish clubs can tap into as they aim to elevate their standing in Europe.
Rangers’ next match is against Spartans, and fans will hope both the attack and defence deliver at Broadwood Stadium on 15 September.
