Breaking News: Seattle Kraken reach five-year extension that worth $90 million with goaltender….

The Seattle Kraken have signed goaltender Joey Daccord to a five-year contract extension worth $5 million per season. Kraken general manager Ron Francis praised Daccord for stepping up last season and expressed confidence in his ability to elevate his game even further.

Daccord, 28, had a breakout 2023-24 season, appearing in 50 games and posting a 19-18-11 record with a .916 save percentage and a 2.46 goals-against average. Notably, he became the first goaltender in Kraken history to finish a season with a save percentage over .900. Daccord also set team records for most saves in a game (42, achieved twice) and tied the franchise record for most shutouts in a season with three, including a shutout in the Winter Classic against the Vegas Golden Knights.

During the season, Daccord helped the Kraken achieve a franchise-record eight-game win streak from December 2023 to January 2024, which tied him for the third-longest win streak by a goaltender that season.

While the new contract secures Daccord through the 2029-30 season and includes a 12-team no-trade list, it does present some risk due to his limited experience in the NHL. Daccord’s strong 2023-24 season suggests the deal could become a valuable asset for Seattle if he continues to perform at a high level, though the team now has nearly $11 million committed to goalie contracts over the next two seasons, with fellow goaltender Philipp Grubauer still under contract for three more years at $5.9 million per season.

As the salary cap is expected to rise in the coming years, Seattle could find this contract favorable if Daccord maintains his performance, potentially emerging as the Kraken’s No. 1 goaltender.
