Striker admits it's a 'crucial year' at new club after cruel injury luck at County - Yahoo Sport

Offrande Zanzala, the injury-plagued striker, acknowledges that this is a “crucial year” for him as he embarks on a new chapter with National League side AFC Fylde, following his departure from Newport County AFC. The 27-year-old forward was released by the Exiles at the end of last season after enduring a string of injuries over his two-year stint at Rodney Parade.

Zanzala’s tenure at Newport started promisingly but was quickly marred by a serious hamstring injury, followed by ruptured knee ligaments. Despite his misfortunes, Zanzala remained a positive and popular figure within the squad. His resilience shone through when he made a memorable return in February, scoring a double against Harrogate.

In total, Zanzala made 34 appearances and netted six goals for Newport County. However, his injury setbacks led to his release at the season’s end.

During the summer, Zanzala participated in Professional Footballers’ Association training camps alongside former Newport teammate Omar Bogle, who has since joined Crewe. This preparation paid off as Zanzala secured a move to AFC Fylde, where he reunites with former Carlisle boss Chris Beech. Fylde narrowly avoided relegation last season, finishing just three points above the drop zone.

Eager to make an impact, Zanzala is enthusiastic about his new opportunity. “I’ve been speaking to the head coach and I can’t wait to get going and help get the club where it wants to be,” said the striker. “The club has ambitions to go higher and so me coming here was certainly something I wanted to do.”

Zanzala brings a wealth of experience and is determined to contribute significantly to Fylde’s campaign. “I’ve got loads of experience in the leagues which is something I want to bring to the team. It’s a crucial year for me football-wise and for the years to come,” he added.

Known for his high energy and direct playing style, Zanzala is committed to working hard and scoring goals. “My character shows in how I play – by working hard – and I’m sure the fans will see attributes of mine which will hopefully help the team progress,” he explained.

With Zanzala’s deal in place, defender Declan Drysdale remains the only Newport County player yet to confirm his next move. Drysdale has been seen training with Tranmere in Birkenhead.

As Zanzala embarks on this pivotal season with AFC Fylde, he hopes to put his injury troubles behind him and help the club achieve its ambitions, while reigniting his own career in the process.
