On Sunday, Liverpool will likely face their most difficult test under Arne Slot. In what could be an exciting match, Chelsea will be visiting Anfield.
Before top-flight football resumes after the international break, the Reds are at the top of the table. Slot’s team was certain to lead going into Week 8, when the scheduling becomes much more difficult, after their 1-0 victory against Crystal Palace two weeks ago.
Even if new manager Enzo Maresca has been able to get a tune out of several players in the first few weeks of the new season, Chelsea had yet another hectic summer in terms of player trades. Perhaps the division’s most notable player has been Cole Palmer in particular.
However, the Londoners have a number of fitness dilemmas to deal with before the match. The news that Reece James had returned to full training before the trip to Anfield gave Chelsea a lift during the international break.
Although the Chelsea head coach has a number of defensive absences that might push his hand, it is unclear if he will choose to start James right away against Liverpool. Due to suspensions, Marc Cucurella and Wesley Fofana will both miss the game.
Chelsea had some slight reservations about Noni Madueke and Levi Colwill’s fitness before to the break. However, since both played for England in their Nations League games, those worries have subsided.
Despite missing Chelsea’s last two games due to illness, Carney Chukwuemeka is expected to return for the match after showing up for training on Monday.
