Police conducted a controlled explosion near East Croydon station after a suspicious package was found on Addiscombe Road on Friday. The incident unfolded just after 4 PM, prompting bomb disposal experts and officers to rush to the scene.
Commuters experienced significant travel disruption, with all trains through East Croydon halted. Southern Rail advised passengers not to travel to the station.
By 5 PM, the station and nearby areas were cordoned off while specialists examined the package. The all-clear was issued around 6 PM after the controlled explosion was carried out as a precaution.
A spokesperson for the Met Police reported that they were alerted to the suspicious package around 4:07 PM. Members of the public were evacuated, and safety measures were implemented while specialist officers assessed the situation.
The police confirmed that the incident has now been resolved, although investigations are ongoing. Normal train services have since resumed.
