Breaking News: Vanderbilt fan nets Troll Job of the Year with post preceding Texas matchup

This Saturday, when the Vanderbilt Commodores host the No. 5-ranked Texas Longhorns, they are getting ready for a game against a top-25 club.

By the time the Longhorns arrive in Nashville, they will be looking at a team that has already defeated Virginia Tech and Alabama this season. Vandy supporters are prepared for what could be the most important game in the program’s history, but they also don’t mind making fun of the Longhorns in the process.

When Texas students strewn the pitch with water bottles during their game against the Georgia Bulldogs on Saturday night, it went viral. The SEC fined the University of Texas a hefty $250,000 and threatened to stop selling alcohol in Austin if the university didn’t follow its list of requirements, which included making sure that this behaviour wouldn’t occur again, even though they didn’t take any action against Texas in-game.

Following the use of video monitoring, some Texas students received text messages earlier this week informing them that their behaviour will prevent them from attending any further games at Darrell K. Royal Memorial Stadium in 2024. No pun intended, Vanderbilt supporters are already slamming it on.

One Vandy fan in particular wins “Troll Job of the Year” for posting on X that the Commodores were putting up “temporary netting” to help prevent Texas fans from entering the stadium. According to him, the netting “may stay up” for the game against Tennessee later this year.

This post went popular on social media even though it was a troll job rather than a genuine Vanderbilt initiative.

To be clear, the SEC will be closely monitoring fan behaviour for the remainder of the year, but there won’t be any netting to prevent water bottles from flying into the field.

The Longhorns should exercise caution even though Texas is a significant 18.5-point favourite going into the matchup with Vanderbilt. Several teams this season have struggled with Diego Pavia and that RPO game, and Texas might be no exception.
