BREAKING NEWS: Wantaway Western Bulldogs star has now been nominate

The veteran midfielder is seeking a move away from the Kennel.

Western Bulldogs midfielder Jack Macrae, who is seeking a move away from Whitten Oval, has reportedly named St Kilda as his preferred destination after requesting a trade.

Last week, it was revealed that Macrae informed the Bulldogs of his intention to leave after 12 years and 249 games in the team’s red, white, and blue colors. Although he is contracted with the Bulldogs until the end of 2027, Macrae struggled for playing time this season, a stark contrast to his previous years as a three-time All-Australian and 2021 Gary Ayres Award winner.

The premiership winner appeared in 19 games this season under coach Luke Beveridge, which tied for his lowest since his debut year (excluding the shortened 2020 season). Macrae was used as the tactical sub four times in 2024 and played three games for Footscray in the VFL.

Now, Macrae has reportedly expressed his desire to join St Kilda during the upcoming trade period. With three years left on his contract, the Saints and Bulldogs will need to negotiate a deal. St Kilda holds Picks 7, 24, and 43 in the upcoming National Draft and will likely add more draft capital through compensation for the expected loss of free agent Josh Battle to Hawthorn. The Saints also have access to their 2025 draft picks.

Macrae is the second Bulldogs player to request a trade after the conclusion of the 2024 season, with Bailey Smith also indicating his intention to move to another club.

The AFL trade period begins on Monday, October 7, and will run until Wednesday, October 16.
