Barcelona are poised to gain financially as West Ham prepare to pay a substantial amount for Nice defender Jean-Clair Todibo, according to a report from Marca.
The Spanish publication stated on August 10 that Barcelona will receive £7.2 million from the transfer, owing to a 20% sell-on clause included when Todibo moved to Nice in the summer of 2021.
Todibo is set to join West Ham on a loan-to-buy arrangement valued at £34.2 million, according to Fabrizio Romano. The 24-year-old defender, who Barcelona originally signed for just £855,000 in 2019, has now agreed to terms with West Ham United.
Although Julen Lopetegui’s side might not be overly concerned about the sell-on clause, Barcelona will be thrilled with the additional revenue from a player they acquired for less than £1 million a few years ago.
The French club, Nice, may have increased their asking price for Todibo, aware that they would lose a portion of the profit, but West Ham seems unbothered by this as they secure his services this summer.
West Ham’s priority is strengthening their defense by partnering Todibo with Max Kilman, especially with Kurt Zouma nearing a potential exit and Nayef Aguerd also being linked with a move away, as reported by David Ornstein.
David Moyes’ defense was heavily criticized last season, particularly in the Premier League, where only Sheffield United conceded more goals. Lopetegui is reportedly dissatisfied with the defense’s preseason performances.
With the new season approaching, West Ham’s backline might see significant changes. The potential partnership of Kilman and Todibo could be formidable, and there are also reports from the Manchester Evening News that Manchester United’s Aaron Wan-Bissaka is close to joining.
Todibo, who has earned two international caps for France, settled in Ligue 1 with Nice after several loan spells, making over 119 club appearances.
