Wolverhampton Wanderers attempted to sign Boulaye Dia and even made an offer, but Salernitana turned it down.

The attacker was eager to join Wolves and was disappointed when the Serie A club refused to authorise a transfer.

Dia and Salernitana have suffered this season, with only four goals in 18 games, and the team will be demoted from the first division.

Tutto Salernitana discusses their terrible season and the circumstances behind Wolves’ offer last summer.

Gary O’Neil’s team wanted him on loan with a €18 million buy option, and Dia attempted to put pressure on Salernitana both directly and through his agent. The transaction did not go through because the Italian club was unhappy with the fee and the methodology.

It is now reported that Salernitana president Danilo Iervolino was willing to accept Wolves’ offer in order to avoid having an unhappy player at the club. Morgan De Sanctis, their then-sports director, refused to let him depart.

According to the article, De Sanctis regarded Wolves’ technique and money offer to be ‘disrespectful’ and encouraged Iervolino to reject it.

This certainly did not work out for Dia and his present club, and the frontman’s situation became one of Salernitana’s most pressing issues this season. In fact, the report now argues that blocking Wolves was a severe mistake.

At the same time, it’s believed that considering how Wolves and Dia’s agent responded, it would have been ‘seen as a display of weakness’ if Salernitana sanctioned the transfer.
