BREAKING NEWS: Could the Triallist from Lincoln City a 33-goal striker?

Yesterday’s 0-0 draw between the Imps and Oldham was facilitated by a player who brought out a lot of investigators.

Many names were proposed as we began the game with a trialist on the flank. I initially believed it might be Ike Orji from Gillingham, but it was merely a basic cross-referencing of free agents by position and a manual search for individuals with similar appearances. Yes, that is my typical Saturday afternoon behavior.

This player is the one in dispute.

Now, a player named King Baidoo, who has been making headlines in the lower divisions, may be the culprit, according to Twitter user Matt Fenton. He has been a player for the Hellenic First Division’s Hartpury University, which is located close to Gloucester. Last season, they won that level, which is the National League’s sixth tier, which is a tier below Lincoln United’s.

Although it may appear completely random, there is a purpose behind this.Baidoo was chosen to play for England Universities in 2021; Michael Skubala possesses some experience in that field. According to his LinkedIn profile, Baidoo coaches strength and conditioning with the goal of going pro.

He has been playing striker for Hartpury University, where he scored 33 goals from 31 starts last season, which would also explain for part of his rawness. He scored 14 goals from just eight starts in the previous campaign. At the game, supporters observed that he didn’t appear totally at ease on the flank, where he filled in as our wingback. But, he might have appeared less informed of the tactical approach than the other players if he is a university student with limited senior experience.

We would probably be watching for indications that Michael could work with the player and assist in his development.

Should we decide to sign him, he wouldn’t be the first college player to agree to a professional contract. Laiith Fairnie left the university in 2023 to work for Birmingham City. Any transfer to us would almost certainly be accompanied by a loan, since Ireland has shown to be a productive environment for our young players in recent years.

Interestingly, this too has a shaky connection to the Imps. Hartpbury defeated Hereford in the final to win the Herefordshire County Cup in 2022. Josh Gowling, manager of theirs.

Although Gary King came through the ranks, he would also be the first player from Lincoln to have the first name King. In the 1990s, Sir Gareth Ainsworth was also one of our Sirs.
