And Evans fits the bill after a fantastic season with their League One rivals, during which his reputation for bringing goal danger to the table skyrocketed.

Despite his side ending in the bottom half of the standings, the former Everton youngster had 19 goal contributions, including 10 goals and nine assists.

One of those came in the form of his amazing free kick against Pompey in Rovers’ 2-1 victory at the Memorial Ground in December.

Evans has built a reputation for eye-catching finishes, direct running and the ability to finish with either foot throughout his four years with the Gas.

Over the last season, the Scouser has demonstrated his versatility by playing as a 10 as well as a deeper midfield term position.

Evans, like many of Pompey’s additions, appears to fit the bill in terms of being able to make an immediate effect on John Mousinho’s first team while also potentially evolving as an asset.

The Blues understand that they must enhance the talent level in Mousinho’s roster as they prepare to compete in the Championship next season.

All parts of the pitch appear to be under consideration for reinforcement, however the Pompey manager has remarked that he is generally satisfied with his current hitting options.

Mousinho has 18 players under contract and has given fresh deals to Marlon Pack and Connor Ogilvie. Zak Swanson and Joe Morrell are still in talks after the club decided not to exercise their 12-month options.
