The Indiana Fever overcame a 15-point second-half deficit to record an impressive 88-82 comeback victory over the Phoenix Mercury in the WNBA, as Caitlin Clark spurred her side on despite only recently recovering from a migraine. In Sunday evening’s other match, Minnesota Lynx claimed a 70-62 win against the Chicago Sky, with Kayla McBride and Napheesa Collier starring.
In the WNBA, Caitlin Clark beat the Phoenix Mercury 88-82 despite suffering from a migraine. The Fever fell behind 17–4 early in the game, and after a little comeback, they were only behind 11 points at the break.
Mercury’s lead soon increased to 15 points once more, but the Fever pulled off a spectacular comeback led by Clark, who finished with 15 points, 12 assists, and 9 rebounds.
Christie Sides, the head coach of the Fever, stated that Clark, who came up just short of recording the first rookie triple-double in WNBA history, didn’t “feel well throughout the entire game”. She did, however, play for 39 minutes and 27 seconds, leaving the game during the last few minutes. “I’m just happy we won,” Clark told ESPN, expressing her happiness despite having migraines in college. “Playing against [Diana Taurasi] was interesting, and the game was undoubtedly excellent. This was such an amazing crowd.” Diana Taurasi, 42, of the Mercury, is now the WNBA’s all-time top scorer and is in her 20th season of play. “It’s amazing what Caitlin’s been able to do in her short career so far,” Taurasi said, complimenting her new opponent.
She is one of my favorite things about her—she is an avid gamer. She has clearly put in a lot of work. She has had many challenges and setbacks, but she has persevered and improved with each passing game. “Her future is super bright, and being a veteran and being in this league for a long, long time, it is pretty cool to see that and go into the future,” the coach said. In another game, the Minnesota Lynx defeated the Chicago Sky 70-62. Napheesa Collier and Kayla McBride both scored 13 points and 16 points, respectively.
