Everton backer Andy Burnham has slammed the Premier League over its “unfair attempts at regulation” after posting a message in Politico.
The Premier League’s message in Monday’s edition [8 April] argued that an independent regulator is not required.
When the post was flagged to Burnham on X, the Mayor of Greater Manchester hit out at the league.
“I would say it’s the Premier League’s own arbitrary and unfair attempts at regulation which are putting English football’s success at risk,” Burnham said.
Everton’s PSR verdict imminent
If reports are to be believed, Everton could find out as early as Monday (8 April) if they have been docked any further points regarding this latest charge, which has been looming for what seems an age.
We all know the situation by now and it seems like everyone has had their say on the matter, but the you-know-what could be about to hit the fan.Should Everton be docked another fairly hefty number of points – five, say – it will lead to uproar from not just supporters but wider circles.
The Premier League has already put a new system in place, likely to be rolled out from this summer, which is their way of admitting the current system is not fit for purpose.
Everton supporters will simply brace themselves for the official announcement via the Premier League as and when it drops. Let’s just hope for a positive outcome.
