Burnley set for potential Ruud van Nistelrooy blow

Burnley set for potential Ruud van Nistelrooy blow as Man United, Erik ten Hag make approach

Ruud van Nistelrooy, a Burnley target, has received an approach from Manchester United, his previous team.

According to Fabricio Romano, the Red Devils have made an approach to recruit Van Nistelrooy to join Erik ten Hag’s coaching staff. Van Nistelrooy is being considered by the Clarets to take Vincent Kompany’s place in the dugout at Turf Moor.

The 47-year-old hasn’t had a job since leaving his position as PSV Eindhoven manager in 2023.

Van Nistelrooy is a candidate Burnley is seriously considering for their new manager in preparation for their Championship comeback, but they risk being outbid by his old team in their pursuit of further backroom personnel.

Van Nistelrooy is the target of United’s approach, as Ten Hag wants to make changes to his backroom personnel.

The Dutchman’s continued leadership at Old Trafford has been reaffirmed, as he attempts to improve on the team’s unsatisfactory eighth-place Premier League result from the previous campaign.

The owners of United may have made their decision based on the team’s FA Cup victory over Manchester City and subsequent Europa League qualification, since the 54-year-old was starting to feel pressure at the close of the previous campaign.

It now seems that the former Ajax manager is preparing to rearrange his coaching staff in an attempt to boost United’s results in the 2024–2025 season.

Ten Hag may have made a wise choice in appointing Van Nistelrooy to his staff given that the Dutchman demonstrated promise while managing PSV Eindhoven and winning the Dutch Cup in 2023.

With one game left in the 2022–2023 Eredivisie season, he stepped down from his position due to a lack of support, and he hasn’t held a managerial position in a club since.

Although Burnley and the former United striker have discussed Kompany’s replacement as manager, Burnley has not yet decided who would take over in Lancashire.

Burnley will be hoping Ruud van Nistelrooy would like to work as a manager than a coach.

Burnley, who will now have to wait until next week to find out whether one of their top managerial goals is going to join the club, could suffer a great deal as a result of United’s move for Van Nistelrooy.

Since Kompany was announced as Thomas Tuchel’s replacement at Bayern Munich at the end of May, the Clarets have been without a manager.

After being linked to a number of names, including Frank Lampard and Carlos Corberan, it seemed as though Burnley had made up their minds that Van Nistelrooy was their man. However, it now appears that they may need to start over from scratch.

They will be hoping that Van Nistelrooy wants to stay on as manager instead of joining the backroom crew.

Just one year after winning the Championship title under Kompany, Burnley was demoted back to the Championship, capping off a disastrous season in the Premier League.

They will now be hoping that, under Van Nistelrooy, they can try to duplicate the achievement, but they will have to wait and see if he chooses to stay at Old Trafford or join them.
