Caitlin Clark, a rookie sensation for the Indiana Fever, continues to shatter records off the court as well. Following the breaking of other WNBA rookie marks, such as those for single-season points (769), assists (337), double-doubles (14), assists (19) in a single game, and made 3-pointers (7), Clark’s rookie cards have also brought in record-breaking amounts.
According to The Collectibles Guru on X, Clark’s 2024 Panini Instant WNBA Draft Blue Viper Rookie Auto 1/1 sold for an unprecedented $84,000, making it the most expensive WNBA card ever. The previous record, which Clark also held, was broken by the record sale on Thursday night.
Having sold her Bowman U Superfractor Auto 1/1 for $78,000 in January of last year, she now possesses the two most expensive WNBA cards ever.
In her debut season, those two records sell more than Clark’s WNBA paycheck did. Clark received a four-year, $338,056 rookie contract after being selected first overall in the WNBA draft, but her first season’s salary will only be $76,535 under the terms of the deal.
In comparison to the hundreds of millions that their male NBA colleagues receive, it’s a drop in the ocean. Without a doubt, though, Clark’s presence has taken the WNBA to a new level, raising hopes that the league will become profitable and, consequently, player compensation. Clark’s endorsement contracts, which include a $28 million deal with Nike, supplement her paltry WNBA income.
