Luton Town are set to land the signing of Cardiff City centre-back Mark McGuinness in a deal that could reach £10 million.
The two Championship teams, according to BBC Sport, have agreed on an eight-figure deal for the defender. Jesper Daland, a Norwegian player for Cercle Brugge, will replace the former Republic of Ireland under-21 international for Cardiff. Despite being absent from Cardiff matches this season owing to ongoing transfer rumors, McGuinness has been a mainstay in the team since returning to South Wales after spending the first part of the 2022–2023 season on loan at Sheffield Wednesday.
Last season, the 23-year-old played in 30 Championship games and scored twice as Cardiff placed 12th overall. On the last day of the season, he made his long-awaited comeback to the club and played just one minute against Rotherham United. He will now, however, sign with Luton, becoming Rob Edwards’ third summer acquisition. Last month, the club signed free agents Shandon Baptiste and Reuell Walters, who had previously left Brentford and Arsenal, respectively.
