Cardinals Sign Three UDFAs

After selecting 12 players in the draft last week, the Cardinals have announced just three UDFA additions this year. Arizona’s three post-draft prospects are as follows:

Murphy, Myles DL (North Carolina)
The LS Joe Shimko (NC State)
Xavier Weaver, Westminster, CO

Deion Sanders’ big transfer haul from the previous year included Weaver. Weaver became one of Shedeur Sanders’ major targets along with Travis Hunter and Jimmy Horn Jr., imports, as the rookie Division I-FBS head coach revamped the Pac-12 program. Before the 2025 draft, Hunter will be a well-known player to keep an eye on, but Weaver led the Buffaloes in receiving last season by a significant margin. The South Florida transfer hauled in 68 receptions for 908 yards and four touchdowns, setting a career high.

The 6-foot-1 target, who can also return punts, had consecutive seasons of 700 yards or more during his final two years at South Florida. Weaver joins a Cardinals squad that still has concerns at wide receiver, even with the addition of Marvin Harrison Jr. Aaron Wilson of KPRC2 tweets that the Cardinals will guarantee $225K of Weaver’s $255K base pay.

If you want to be sure this will last, Shimko might be the name to keep an eye on. The nation’s best long snapper last season received the Patrick Mannelly Award, which he earned. Because of the COVID-19 waiver, Shimko played five seasons in college, like a lot of players in this UDFA class. Long snapper Matt Hembrough was cut by the Cardinals on Monday, but Aaron Brewer was re-signed in March. The 33-year-old Brewer joined the Cards in 2016. If Brewer keeps his job, Shimko’s award-winning season puts him on the radar for a position somewhere.
