SAN FRANCISCO [—] With three hits and a two-run home run, Nick Castellanos led the MLB-leading Philadelphia Phillies to a 6-1 victory over the San Francisco Giants on Wednesday, ending a three-game losing streak. Cristopher Sánchez recorded seven strikeouts in six perfect innings. Philadelphia stopped a nine-game losing slide at Oracle Park and avoided a series sweep thanks to two more doubles and a single from Castellanos.
Sánchez (3-3) reduced his ERA to 2.83 while giving up four hits and a walk. With his fifth leadoff home run of the year and his 36th career, Kyle Schwarber ties Baltimore’s Gunnar Henderson for the major league lead in hits. In the seventh, Schwarber added an RBI single. With two hits, including an RBI single, Cristian Pache helped the Phillies finish their six-game trip with a 2-4 record. In the ninth, with two outs, Heliot Ramos bloop RBI singled in the run that put San Francisco ahead.
After Giants starter Kyle Harrison delivered two straight pitches high and inside to Phillies hitter Bryce Harper, both dugouts and bullpens cleared in the fourth inning. After the first pitch, Harper yelled at Harrison, tying the score at 2-2. Harrison delivered an even more accurate pitch the next time, striking Harper’s bat knob and drawing a foul ball. There were no ejections or fists exchanged, but both dugouts emptied. The umpires cautioned both teams.
The inning ended with Harper grounding out to shortstop, leaving runners on second and third. Later, in the seventh, he ended a 0-for-14 slump with an RBI single. In five innings, Harrison (4-2) gave up four runs and twelve hits while striking out five and walking one. His previous eight starts had all been victories for the Giants. San Francisco’s six-game home winning streak came to an end with the loss.
