Celtic are now looking to sweep in and sign ‘complete’ £6m midfielder who Everton wanted this summer

Following the collapse of Everton’s takeover on Friday morning, the club may now face a series of unfortunate developments. Despite the setback, Sean Dyche’s team managed to uplift some Everton fans with a comeback in their 3-3 draw against Sligo Rovers on Friday evening.

However, the major news from Friday was The Friedkin Group’s decision to withdraw from the Everton takeover race. While this frustration hasn’t jeopardized Everton’s summer plans, as the club remains financially stable, there could be one potential setback. Celtic has reportedly entered the fray for a player Everton was eyeing, potentially leading to Everton missing out on his signature.

Everton could be set to lose out to Celtic in race for midfielder

Despite the ongoing turmoil of the takeover situation at Goodison Park, Everton’s summer transfer activities have started positively.

Two new signings have bolstered the squad, while departures have helped to maintain financial equilibrium following last month’s PSR scare.

Amadou Onana’s impending move to Aston Villa is expected to fetch around £50 million, although Everton’s plans to bring in Tanner Tessmann on loan as his replacement have hit a snag. Originally targeted from Inter Milan for £6 million, the deal between Venezia and Inter has collapsed, dashing Everton’s hopes of securing Tessmann on loan.

With no agreement reached between Inter and the player’s agent, the 22-year-old American’s potential move to Everton is now off the table. Several European clubs, including Celtic, Brentford, Torino, Parma, and Como, are reportedly interested in signing Tessmann.

This setback marks another disappointing turn of events for Everton this week. Nevertheless, Everton still have ample time to explore other options for Onana’s replacement, especially since the Belgian midfielder’s transfer to Villa Park is not yet finalized.

Despite these challenges, Everton has shown serious intent in the transfer market this summer. While losing out on Tessmann may sting, there is still over a month left in the transfer window to strengthen the squad with new acquisitions.
