Celtic favourite set to reject SWPL move to head Stateside

After her loan period ended, Natasha Flint, the winner of the Celtic title, is expected to leave Glasgow and move to the United States, according to various sources who spoke with The Scotsman.

The forward, who had played on loan at Excelsior Stadium for the second half of the previous two seasons, became a fan favourite after scoring in the Women’s Cup victory over Rangers the previous year. This summer, she returned to help the team win the league. Last week, Flint posted on social media, perhaps confirming that she would not be going back to the club: “Celtic, thank you again for everything!” Another brief visit, but what a fantastic experience. The forward’s contract expires this summer, and it is known that USL Super League team The Tampa Bay Sun is in the running to sign him. This would be a significant move from the Florida-based team.

Unlike the American top tier, the NWSL, which starts in March and finishes in October, the USL Super League is a newly constructed level that is scheduled to begin this summer and will align with numerous overseas leagues. It will function similarly to a second-tier level, but unlike the NWSL, it won’t have promotion or relegation.

Eligible for Tier-1 professional football status, the league will consist of eight teams and will take place between August and May. It is anticipated that Flint will reach an agreement to sign with Tampa Bay on a free agent, as her contract is scheduled to expire in June. On August 19, the club’s debut season will begin with a matchup versus Dallas Trinity.

The former Leicester City forward chose to sign a one-year contract with Liverpool of the Women’s Super League last summer, but he had few opportunities there. He played just 225 minutes for the team before going back to Celtic FC for a second stint.

She scored 11 goals in 14 games under new head coach Elena Sadiku, helping the Hoops win the SWPL for the first time ever.
