Celtic loanee continues goalscoring form with second strike in three days

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has a plethora of loanees at clubs around the country he will be monitoring ahead of pre-season this summer.Individuals gaining experience in an alternative setting has become a profitable exercise for the Bhoys to convert prodigious talent into first-team stardom.

Ryan Christie, Kristoffer Ajer, and Liam Scales embody recent examples of this trend; meanwhile, it remains to be determined who else will embark down this well-trodden path.

One Celtic loanee who has diverted eyes towards his progress this term is Bosun Lawal, who has registered six goals and two assists in 45 appearances at Fleetwood Town [Transfermarkt].

Fleetwood manager Charlie Adam has tipped the Republic of Ireland Under-21 international to go on and establish himself at Parkhead, stating earlier this year: “The longer he’s in the building for us, from now until the end of the season, he will definitely make a difference to our team.

“He’s a top talent, but hopefully, with the journey we’re on and the support that we can give him, he goes back to Celtic next season, and he goes and competes for a position because I believe he’s got the right credentials to be a Celtic player.”

With Rodgers keen to develop internal prospects during his second spell, the stars could have aligned nicely for Lawal to regularly feature in the senior squad come 2024/25.

Making significant strides in midfield, Lawal netted again for Fleetwood last night away to Peterborough United, opening the scoring in the first minute of their eventual 4-1 defeat at the Weston Homes Stadium.

Receiving a ball from Brendan Sarpong-Wiredu, Lawal steadied himself before firing a low strike past Jed Steer to open the scoring.

Unfortunately, Lawal did also miss a penalty that he won from driving into the area on the 13th minute, and Fleetwood went on to lose by a convincing scoreline of 4-1.

The Cod Army sit six points from safety with just two Sky Bet League one matches left to play, which signifies they now look to be on borrowed time in the English third-tier.

Nevertheless, Lawal has enjoyed a promising campaign from a personal point of view, something that will stand him in good stead for his anticipated return to Parkhead.

His goal last night followed a strike against Northampton Town at the weekend, demonstrating his threat in front of goal that Celtic could well weaponise next campaign.
