Celtic news bulletin as mega Mikey Johnston price tag floated while Rocco Vata sees Lazio join list of suitors

Mikey Johnston has been tipped by one pundit to hand Celtic a big windfall – on one key condition.

The Hoops attacker departed Brendan Rodgers’ side during the January transfer window after falling down the pecking order to take in a loan move south of the border with English Championship side West Brom. He’s made a impact at the Hawthorns with fans already demanding they keep him full-time. He’s been a regular pick on the team sheet and contributed seven goals in just 15 outing in England’s second tier. He was also named the Player of the Month for the division in another milestone moment.

That form has Tam McManus predicting that Celtic could demand a larger fee to part with the Republic of Ireland international and he even suggested that West Brom could pay as much as £10MILLION if they reach the English Premier League – with the Baggies currently in the top six and looking like they will secure a spot in the play-offs.

Speaking on PLZ soccer, McManus said: “A lot of Celtic supporters were quite happy he left. I don’t think they rated him, the majority of the Celtic support. I think he struggled at times to deal with the size of the club and expectations.

“I think he’s went down there as an unknown quantity and has been brilliant for West Brom. He’s enjoying his football, less pressure on him and Celtic will be happy. If he keeps playing the way he is between now and the end of the season – West Brom are in the play-offs – if they go to the Premier League they might pay £10million for him.

“Celtic would have been quite happy to take a couple of million for him. If West Brom get promoted and he’s flying, Celtic will demand a big, big fee for him.”

Meanwhile, Rocco Vata has been linked with a fresh move to Italy with giants Lazio. Reports from the country state the club are making plans ahead of the next window with the Celtic youngster named.

He’s been previously linked with a number of clubs in Italy with his Hoops’ future still up in the air. Nothing has been agreed in terms of an extension or moving on with first-team chances under Rodgers very limited with minutes coming against Buckie Thistle in the Scottish Cup and the final few moments in a Scottish Premiership clash against Aberdeen.

Rodgers and co have also discovered the match officials for their Scottish Cup semi-final showdown with the Dons this weekend. Both clubs will be desperate to book a Hampden return and keep hopes of lifting the famous old trophy alive and kicking. Don Robertson is the man in the middle with Graeme Stewart and Steven Traynor running the lines. David Dickinson takes on fourth official duties while Greg Aitken is in the VAR hot seat with Andrew McWillian on assistant VAR duties.
