Celtic Should Follow Dortmund’s Lead After Latest Announcement

However, unlike Borussia Dortmund, who recently announced they would wear a special shirt against Stuttgart to commemorate 50 years of the Westfalenstadion, Celtic has yet to don their commemorative kits in match scenarios.

Last season, Celtic unveiled a special kit celebrating the club’s Irish origins, intended to be worn around St. Patrick’s weekend. Yet, when the time came, the kit remained unworn during matches.

Similarly, this season witnessed the release of another unique kit, this time honouring the 120th anniversary of the iconic green and white hoops. Despite the significance of the anniversary, this kit too has yet to make an appearance on the pitch.

The practice of commemorating important milestones or anniversaries with special kits and then wearing them in competitive matches is a tradition that Celtic could benefit from embracing.

Celtic has a perfect opportunity to follow Dortmund’s lead if they progress past Aberdeen in the Scottish Cup semi-finals. The final, scheduled for May 25th, coincides with the anniversary of Celtic’s historic European Cup win in Lisbon on May 25, 1967. Wearing the special kit commemorating 120 years of green and white hoops on this date would be a poignant tribute to the Lisbon Lions and a celebration of Celtic’s enduring legacy.
