Released Charlton star monitored by EFL clubs
A handful of EFL clubs are monitoring the availability of Charlton Athletic youngster Jason Adigun after the midfielder was released from the Addicks youth set-up this week.
The League One club is known for its successful academy products, having produced the likes of Ezri Konsa and Joe Gomez in recent years. Adigun enjoyed a successful loan stint in the National League South with Welling United this term and now the 20-year-old is available on a free transfer.
AllNigeriaSoccer reports that Cheltenham Town, Gillingham, Harrogate Town and Southend United are all monitoring the former Charlton man following his release. Taking to social media last week, Adigun wrote: “My time at @CAFCofficial has come to an end. I am thankful to staff and everyone at the club. Can’t wait to see what next season brings. Excited and ready!”
Leyton Orient star signs new deal
Leyton Orient have confirmed that defender Jack Simpson has signed a new one-year contract with the club. The 27-year-old joined the side on a short-term deal at the end of February and made five appearances for the O’s.
As the London outfit prepares for another season of League One football, the former Rangers and Bournemouth man has committed a year to the project. He told the club website: “I had my end-of-season meeting with the manager and in my mind I had already decided that, if the club were going to offer me something, I wanted to sign.
“I have really enjoyed my three months here so far – it has been an incredible experience in so many different ways – and I felt like I became part of the club and its community straight away. I’ve had to show who I am as a person and getting out in the local area felt special and it helped me learn what this club is all about.
“I’m really grateful to the club for showing faith in me and next season we want to improve on how we did this year. League One is going to be tougher and we just want to make sure that we can show we are moving in the right direction.”
Birmingham City midfielder Jordan James could be offered a way out of the club following relegation to League One this summer amid transfer interest from abroad.
Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano reports that the 19-year-old has become a target for Serie A side Atlanta having been nominated for the Championship Young Player of the Year award last season despite Birmingham City’s poor form.
Premier League clubs Everton, Crystal Palace and Newcastle United have all also been linked with transfer interest in the past with the Blues believed to be wanting £10 million for the player. James is contracted at St Andrew’s until 2025, with a club option for another year, but the new League One outfit could cash in on the star should a suitable offer come in.
