Chelsea could be about to unleash the ‘next Paolo Maldini’ as Enzo Maresca drops hint

An promising young athlete who has already been compared to legendary players like Paolo Maldini may soon make his first team debut under Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca.

Since relocating to Stamford Bridge in the summer, Maresca has not hesitated to offer young players an opportunity to make an impression. Josh Acheampong has made the most of his chance and established himself as a valuable member of the Blues’ team.

Following his arrival at Stamford Bridge, Chelsea supporters on X (previously Twitter) were unable to control their excitement as Samuels-Smith was even compared to Italian legend Maldini.

“We just signed the next Maldini,” remarked @david_choya, while @Anil_Bluez commented, “I know he is our next [John] Terry.” He would eventually be considered the greatest player in the world, according to others, with @NyumahStewart posting: “Ballon d’Or loading.”

Whether Samuels-Smith will play for Chelsea against Wolves on Monday night is still up in the air. If Renato Veiga departs Stamford Bridge this month, he might have a chance to establish himself at the senior level.

Veiga, 21, is reportedly eager to play regular football outside of west London, and reports indicate that he has reached an agreement with Borussia Dortmund over a possible transfer.

Samuels-Smith might have an opportunity to become Marc Cucurella’s real rival because the Blues are unlikely to add a new player in that position before the end of the transfer window.

Although he is a left-back by nature, he can also play central defence when needed to fill in in the middle. He was benched for a Premier League match against Fulham while he was at Everton, but he did not play.

It remains to be seen if Samuels-Smith will make his Chelsea first division debut on Monday night, though his participation in training may suggest that he will be included in the squad.
