Christie Sides, the Fever Coach, asks Caitlin Clark to take more shots.

On Sunday, Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever take on the Phoenix Mercury in an attempt to build on their recent winning streak. The Fever, who have won six of their past ten games, are in their finest form of the season going into their matchup on Sunday. Although their recent performance has encouraged coach Christie Sides, she still hopes to see more from Clark offensively.

In response to a question regarding Clark’s recent play, Indiana’s coach acknowledged that she would want to see the highly regarded freshman take more shots and be a little more aggressive offensively rather than giving up a good opportunity to score. “If you look back at the games we won, you’ll see that we had four or five guys who scored in double figures, all of them between ten, twelve, and fifteen shots. To kind of maintain that consistency… Clark made a few passes in the game the other night that she definitely could have avoided making.

Just attempting to strike a balance with her. Just trying to get her as open as possible, whether she’s on or off the ball, with a few extra shots.”

In her debut campaign, Clark has averaged 16.2 points, 6.6 assists, and 5.2 rebounds through the first 19 games. She’s shooting 12.2 field goals a game at a 40.2% clip and, on average, 8.0 attempts per night from three-point range, for a 35.5% clip. This season, only Kelsey Mitchell (255 shots) has taken more shots than Clark (232) for the Fever. The No. 1 selection leads the team with 152 three-pointers made. Although the highly regarded rookie hasn’t hesitated to take shots, Sides wants to see even more aggression from Clark when it comes to attacking.
