If Ben Johnson signs with the Rangers during the summer transfer window on a free transfer from West Ham United, James Tavernier might be headed out of town.
According to a TEAMtalk report from May 10, the West Ham defender is expected to turn down a contract and go on a free transfer.
Along with several other English teams, Philippe Clement’s team is reportedly in the running to recruit the adaptable defender this summer.
After the Daily Record (April 26,) connected Tavernier with a summer transfer to Al Ettifaq, signing Johnson might mean the end for him at Ibrox.
James Tavernier might leave the Rangers in a Ben Johnson deal.
The Hammers defender is reportedly holding out for £50,000 a week, but that is more than they are willing to pay, according to West Ham news website Claret & Hugh (5 March).
Having said that, he will leave on a free transfer to look for a team that is prepared to pay that sum.
In the event that Tavernier leaves the team and moves to Saudi Arabia with Steven Gerrard, Rangers might be able to make a comparable offer.
Over the course of his nine years at Ibrox, the Rangers captain has made over 450 appearances for the team, tallying 125 goals [FotMob].

Having said that, he isn’t getting any younger at 32, so he might believe that moving to Al Ettifaq will provide him with financial security.
There is no need for both of them at the club if Johnson signs, especially considering the salaries that are being advertised.
