Scunthorpe United wishes to clarify the reasons behind rescheduling their upcoming fixture against King’s Lynn Town, which has been moved from New Year’s Day to New Year’s Eve. This decision was primarily driven by the football department to benefit the team’s performance and logistical considerations.
The main reason for the fixture change is to provide the squad with an extra day of recovery. The revised schedule now has matches on Thursday, Tuesday, and Saturday, as opposed to the original Thursday, Wednesday, and Saturday lineup. This adjustment offers a more balanced interval between games, enhancing the team’s chances of securing maximum points during the busy festive period. An additional day of rest between the matches against King’s Lynn Town and Brackley Town is seen as crucial, given that both opponents are expected to be strong contenders in the league.
King’s Lynn Town has agreed to this change, and the Vanarama National League has ratified the decision.
Additionally, hosting a match on New Year’s Day presents significant financial challenges. The costs of policing and stewarding on this day are substantially higher, consuming a large portion of the gate receipts. Historically, the club has also faced difficulties in securing adequate staffing for Bank Holiday matches, often resulting in a reliance on more expensive agency staff. The Bank Holiday status of New Year’s Day further inflates these costs due to increased policing requirements and higher agency staff wages.
Scunthorpe United acknowledges that this change may inconvenience some supporters who planned to attend the game on New Year’s Day. Conversely, the new date may allow other fans, who could not make it on New Year’s Day, to attend the match. The club apologizes for any inconvenience caused and hopes that by providing ample notice, supporters can adjust their plans accordingly.
Scunthorpe United appreciates the understanding and support of their fans and looks forward to a successful festive period on the pitch.
