According to reports, Nottingham Forest is about to finalize another transaction this summer after acquiring Ramon Sosa.
Nottingham Forest eye late additions
Nuno Espírito Santo’s team continues to be busy in the transfer market as the transfer window draws to a close, having secured their first point of the season during the Premier League opening weekend. The Garibaldi are looking to add more offensive talent, and they have already had one attempt to sign Mexican striker Santiago Gimenez, who finished the previous season with 23 goals in the Eredivisie, rejected.
Meanwhile, they are also understood to be chasing defensive reinforcements and a goalkeeper, with the arrivals of Jota Silva and Ramon Sosa having already bolstered their frontline.
But it is a far cry from recent transfer windows, which have seen them cram the arrivals lounge at a rate only matched by Todd Boehly at Stamford Bridge, a series of events which led to them sailing too close to the wind with financial fair play.
Despite their more settled nature this time around, they are always on the hunt for upgrades, and they may be ready to revisit a player they know well before the end of the transfer window.
Montiel on verge of Forest return
That comes as one journalist claims that Forest have agreed a deal to re-sign right-back Gonzalo Montiel ahead of the transfer deadline in what would be a bizarre move.
The Argentine, who featured six times as they lifted the Copa América over the summer, spent the 2023-24 campaign at the City Ground but appeared to fall out of favour towards the back end of the campaign, failing to feature in games between February and April, though he did start the final four games of the season.
Although the club had the option to purchase the defender as part of Montiel’s loan move, they decided not to use it and sent him back to Seville. It has since been claimed that they will actually purchase him this summer, with the initial choice possibly being affected by possible financial fair play consequences in advance of the PSR deadline of June 30.
According to Spanish journalist Fernando Serrano, the defender has reached personal terms on a four-year contract at the City Ground and is “very close” to joining Forest again. Forest has made a 12 million euro (£10.2 million) bid to sign him, with 9 million euros coming in cash (£7.7 million) and an additional 3 million euros (£2.5 million) in add-ons.
The offer’s worth is probably comparable to the option to purchase Montiel during the initial loan, and since the Argentine is nearing the end of his £23,000-per-week contract, it may be sufficient to bring the World Cup winner back to the City Ground permanently. It is unclear if Sevilla has accepted the offer.
