After it was established that Connor Roberts would be returning to Burnley at the conclusion of his loan stay, he sent a message to Leeds United.

The Welshman joined Elland Road on loan in January of last year, covering for Daniel Farke at right back as Leeds was unable to advance to the Premier League.

Roberts will return to Turf Moor at the conclusion of the season, the Clarets have confirmed, although he will still travel with the Whites to Wembley Stadium for the Championship play-off final.

On Tuesday, May 28, he posted on Instagram, writing, “Football ey. Naturally, we are all really disappointed that we weren’t able to fulfil our dreams, but let’s not forget how amazing it was to be a part of this amazing football club and play a few games there.

“A priceless encounter that I will always remember. I appreciate all of your kind help, ladies and gentlemen.

Despite only making two Championship starts during his six-month spell at Elland Road, Roberts became an integral part of the squad, especially joining up with his international teammates.

With Ethan Ampadu, Joe Rodon and Dan James already at the club, the 28-year-old settled into life in West Yorkshire seamlessly and was a very welcomed addition, especially from the bench.

It is very important for fans not to fall in love with loan players, though this is made all the more difficult when they are as charismatic as Roberts is.

Although the club is eager to welcome back a few loan players for the upcoming campaign, particularly Tottenham’s Rodon, the club’s financial predicament will make this more difficult as the summer transfer market draws near.

This isn’t the last time we’ll see the full-back at Elland Road, despite Roberts’ parting words. We’ll never know who comes back to Yorkshire throughout next transfer windows.
