West Brom are looking to sign Uros Racic from Italian side Sassuolo before the end of the transfer window.
The 6′ 4in midfielder is wanted by the Baggies, and they hope to sign him before the August 30 deadline, according to Express & Star. Carlos Corberan’s team, who made it to the play-offs the previous season, will be looking to compete for promotion to the Premier League this year. Furthermore, Racic appears to be considered as a possible successor to Okay Yokuslu, who left The Hawthorns earlier this summer to return to his home country of Türkiye.
Torbjorn Heggem, Gianluca Frabotta, and Devante Cole are just a few of the players West Brom has signed this summer as they look to place in the top six of the Championship.
Uros Racic, West Brom transfer verdict issued
Callum Burgess, a West Brom supporter on FLW, thinks that Racic would be a suitable Yokuslu substitute by emphasizing the important qualities he can offer the team. But before the window closes next week, he would also want to see another player with a creative eye join the team. Burgess told Football League World, “I think it’s important that Albion make a move for a midfielder in the mold of Uros Racic with the loss of Yokuslu.”
Obviously he’s 6ft4, quite big and quite strong.
Since Yokuslu is the kind of midfielder we now lack, he looks like someone who will be quite active with tackles and replace a lot of things we’ve lost.
With [Ousmane] Diakité still getting used to league life and [Jason] Molumby, who is quite tenacious, Albion could certainly do worse than signing Racic, who has a wealth of top flight experience from his time playing for teams like Valencia, Braga, and Sassuolo last season. “With his top flight experience, he will be somewhat of an unknown quantity at first, but I don’t think he will need much time to adjust to the competitiveness of the Championship.”
So I think he could end up being quite a coup for the club.
“I believe Albion will be looking for a different midfield player. If it were up to me, I would prefer someone who is a little more inventive than Racic, but he might end up being a good addition to the team.”
Uros Racic’s top flight experience
Racic signed for Sassuolo just last summer, arriving from Valencia after he spent five years with the Spanish side.
The Serbian made 22 appearances in Serie A last season, but only started eight times as the team suffered relegation to Serie B.
He previously played in the Portuguese top flight for Braga on loan, helping them come third in the 2022/23 campaign, playing in 25 of their 34 league games.
The midfielder struggled for consistent game time at Valencia, featuring 59 times for the club in La Liga during his five years there.
