Rangers are prepared to “step up their interest” in Connor Barron, an out-of-contract Aberdeen midfield player who Coventry City is reportedly interested in signing.
The 21-year-old has been offered a new contract, but there is growing interest in the deep-lying playmaker. Our sister title the Daily Record reports that Bologna has joined the growing list of Italian clubs considering a summer move for the player, while the Sky Blues and Swansea in the Championship are said to be “keen.”
According to SunSport, Philippe Clement, the manager of Rangers and a former Sky Blues player, is leading the chase to sign the Scotland under-21 player this summer.
There are reportedly still suitors in Italy and England for the 21-year-old, with Serie A’s Cagliari leading the pack. However, the Gers are eager to sign him after previously acquiring Jefte, Oscar Cortes, and Clinton Nsiala this summer.
Barron has reportedly been on a little vacation in Portugal, but he may return for a physical and contract negotiations.
Aberdeen should receive payment for a player that progressed through Pittodrie’s junior system. Cross-border regulations may result in a compensation payout of up to £500,000 if Barron flees to Italy.
