Coventry City: If nothing happens, these 3 players will leave the CBS Arena

HIGHLIGHTS

  •  Coventry City aims for success through season end despite losing key players & slow start.
  •  Simon Moore, Liam Kelly, & Callum O’Hare could leave CBS Arena if contracts not renewed.
  •  Moore sidelined as third-choice goalkeeper, Kelly’s playing time reduced, O’Hare attracting attention for strong performances.

Coventry City will hope success can still be had between now and the end of the season.

There was a different view on what the Sky Blues could achieve this season, as they made it all the way to the Championship play-off final at the end of the last campaign.

So, when Mark Robins’ side started the season slowly, there would have been concern about a hangover from the previous campaign and the fact that they had lost two key players in Gustavo Hamer and Viktor Gyokeres.

However, the club soon started to turn the corner, and just like before, they went from the bottom end of the table to in the mix for a play-off spot.

As well as chasing promotion glory, Coventry also have an exciting FA Cup semi-final tie against Manchester United to look forward to in a few weeks time.

So, all focus will be on the pitch at this moment in time, but decisions will soon have to be made as the club has players who are coming to the end of their contracts.

So, with that said, here we have looked at the three players who will leave the CBS Arena this summer if a new deal isn’t agreed…

Simon Moore

The first player who is currently in the final few months of his contract at the club is goalkeeper Simon Moore.

The 33-year-old has been at the club since joining on a free transfer from Sheffield United in 2021.

In that summer, Moore signed a three-year contract, which hasn’t been renewed since, meaning he will leave the club on a free transfer come the end of June.

It is unclear if the Sky Blues will look to tie the goalkeeper down to a new contract, as at the time of writing he has failed to make a single appearance for the club this season, finding himself as a third choice.

This campaign has been a real disappointment for the player, as when he first joined the club, he was instantly installed as their number one, playing 41 times in the Championship and keeping nine clean sheets.

He then lost his place last season, becoming second choice behind Ben Wilson, playing just four times in all competitions. Therefore, it looks like he is no longer needed at Coventry, and it is likely he will be allowed to leave at the end of the campaign.

Liam Kelly

The next player whose contract is coming closer and closer to an end as the weeks go on is midfielder and club captain Liam Kelly.

The 34-year-old has been with the Sky Blues since joining from Leyton Orient in the summer of 2017.

Kelly has been a popular figure since joining the club, but his reliance in the team has dropped in the last season or two, as his age has meant he can’t play as regularly as previously.

The midfielder has been part of the club’s rise from League Two into League One and then into the Championship.

Kelly has continued to be key in the second tier, but last season was a struggle for the player as he suffered from injuries that resulted in him only playing 10 times in the Championship, but he did feature in all three play-off games.

The experienced midfielder signed a one-year deal last summer, and it will likely be decided at the end of the season what both the club and player plan to do.
