Coventry City suffer major injury blow ahead of crucial Ipswich Town clash which impacts Leeds United

Coventry City have suffered an injury blow to Ben Sheaf before of their encounter with Ipswich Town, which may harm Leeds United’s chances of automatic promotion.

Coventry City have suffered a serious injury blow to midfielder Ben Sheaf before of their match against Ipswich Town on Tuesday night.

Leeds United and Kieran McKenna are presently tied in the Championship table, aiming for automatic promotion to the Premier League by finishing in the top two spots.

The Whites are presently in second place, after a 4-0 loss to Queens Park Rangers on Saturday. Ipswich were held to a 3-3 tie with Hull City.

Leeds leads with a goal differential of plus-seven, although Ipswich has a game in hand against Coventry on Tuesday night. Leeds will host Southampton at Elland Road on the season’s final weekend, while Ipswich will host Huddersfield Town.

Before the game at the Coventry Building Society Stadium, Sky Blues manager Mark Robins confirmed a huge injury blow for his team. Sheaf, a key midfielder, was forced to sit out the recent 0-0 draw with Blackburn Rovers, and his boss provided an update on his fitness following the game.

“He tried to train on Friday but couldn’t, so he was out,” Robins stated before being pressed for further information but declining to give specifics about the setback. “It’s a muscle in his body,” he explained. “I’ll tell you when I have to. I don’t need to discuss it with you yet. “He is struggling.”

Centre-back Luis Binks was also absent from the team, with Robins stating: “Binksy is still out with his Achilles injury. I’m not sure how terrible it is yet because we can’t scan it. We only have to treat the symptoms and see how he does, but clearly the two of them were suffering.”

Defender Liam Kitching was also issued a straight red card during the draw and will be sidelined for the match against Ipswich next Saturday. Robins presently has only two fit centre-backs to face McKenna’s side, which may significantly reduce their chances of assisting Leeds in the race for automatic promotion.
