Coventry City pursuing Antoine Bernede deal with Lausanne-Sport

According to the latest update, Coventry City are interested in acquiring Bernede this summer.

The Championship club has reportedly spoken to the midfielder’s representatives, indicating their intent to sign him.

However, they have yet to make a formal offer to his current club.

Lausanne-Sport is keen to keep Bernede, and it would require a significant offer to persuade them to agree to a deal.

Currently, Antoine Bernede has two years remaining on his contract, so Lausanne-Sport is not pressured to sell him this summer. Bernede has already declined a move to French Ligue 1 side AJ Auxerre, who recently signed Luton Town defender Gabriel Osho.

Last season, Bernede’s team finished 10th in the Swiss top flight, just above the relegation play-off spot in the 12-team league. Meanwhile, Coventry City finished 9th in the Championship, nine points away from the play-off spots. This summer, Coventry has made three first-team signings: winger Raphael Borges Rodriguez, midfielder Jack Rudoni, and center-back Luis Binks. Additionally, Ephron Mason-Clark will make his debut following his January move from Peterborough United.

Signing Bernede would be an intriguing move for Coventry. His pedigree, including multiple titles from his time at Salzburg, suggests he could be a valuable asset in the Championship. However, Coventry’s current midfield options—Ben Sheaf, Victor Torp, Josh Eccles, Jamie Allen, Jack Rudoni, and Kasey Palmer—may make another midfielder a lower priority.

Given Bernede’s potentially high cost, spending on him could divert funds from other areas that might need more reinforcement. It remains to be seen how aggressively Coventry will pursue a deal for Bernede in the coming weeks.
