Simon Moore, a goalkeeper who is currently without a contract, is reportedly being considered by Sunderland, a rival of Coventry City in the Championship. Moore, 34, became a free agent after his three-year tenure with Coventry City ended this month. Initially signed from Sheffield United in 2021 by Mark Robins, Moore quickly established himself as Coventry’s first-choice goalkeeper.
However, his form dipped during the 2022/23 season, leading to his replacement by Ben Wilson, who excelled with 22 clean sheets and won the division’s Golden Glove award. The arrival of Brad Collins from Barnsley further pushed Moore down the team’s pecking order, resulting in him not playing any competitive matches.
According to transfer expert Alan Nixon of The Sun, Sunderland, currently without a manager, is in discussions to sign Moore as backup for Anthony Patterson. Patterson himself has been a subject of transfer speculation, with interest reportedly from Sheffield United, who were recently relegated. Additionally, Alex Bass, another goalkeeper, has permanently left Sunderland, moving to Notts County for an undisclosed fee after a successful loan spell at AFC Wimbledon in League Two last season.
