Oliver Glasner has been given the opportunity to shape his Crystal Palace club into a group he will be satisfied with this summer.

There is a lot of work to be done, therefore unless one of the team’s best players is sold, it is unlikely that the club would make significant transfers during the window.

This implies the team will probably take advantage of the free agency market. Rumor has it that additional players may arrive for free, while Dougie Freedman is already close to bringing in Daichi Kamada.

Crystal Palace is still interested in Alex Berenguer.

Palace is still connected to possible free agents despite having already confirmed one arrival via a free transfer.

The Athletic Bilbao winger is reportedly still a target for Palace this summer despite some earlier-in-the-year rumors tying him to Selhurst Park, according to AS.

According to the article, Berenguer and Bilbao are currently negotiating a contract; his present agreement expires at the end of this month, having cost Bilbao £10 million. Although it’s believed that his main goal is to extend his contract with the La Liga team, a few English teams are reportedly interested in signing him.

The fact that Palace, Brentford, and Wolves are also said to be interested shows how fierce the battle will be if the Eagles decide to sign the 28-year-old.

Ben Johnson, who is still negotiating a deal with West Ham, is another alternative besides Berenguer; Palace has been strongly linked to the position as well.

Two more possible free agents are being connected to transfers to the Eagles in the interim.

What might Selhurst Park benefit from having Alex Berenguer?

This summer, Palace will focus just as much on strengthening the starting lineup by making significant acquisitions as they will on enhancing the technical skill and depth of the team.

In many respects, Glasner’s starting eleven already meet the necessary standard; the bench is where the true vulnerability lies.

Here’s where Berenguer enters the picture. He may not start with some of the more intriguing targets mentioned in the case that Michael Olise or Eberechi Eze depart, but he would still be a fantastic addition to the team.

He was a minor part player for Bilbao last season, but he still had a great season with seven goals and three assists in La Liga.
