Danny Röhl pressing on with transfers as Sheffield Wednesday hit key date

Danny Rohl wants Sheffield Wednesday to repeat Premier League loan success

The summer transfer window has opened, meaning Sheffield Wednesday may now finalize permanent deals with other teams.

The Owls have been hard at work arranging new agreements in an effort to expedite their incoming transfer business. Following fruitful talks with French club Angers, The Star announced on Thursday that an agreement had been reached to bring 25-year-old Tunisia international right-back Yan Valery to Hillsborough on a permanent move. According to The Star’s understanding, the club works under the stipulation that transfer funds are accessible based on the specific aim on an individual basis.

The goal on Wednesday is to close as many transactions as possible early on; but, due to the size of the transfer window, loans and transfers must be completed by 11 p.m. on September 2, 2024, after which any agreements other than free agency signings will need to wait until January.

Agents without chargeMax Lowe, a left back for Sheffield United, and veteran goalkeeper Ben Hamer, who most recently played for Watford, are also rumored to be closing on signings. It is believed that both parties have agreed upon general arrangements, with completion probably awaiting medical exams.

Ian Poveda, who made an impact in his ten loan outings from Leeds United previous season, is rumored to be the subject of discussions over a free transfer. Positive talks have taken place over the return of another loanee, Brighton & Hove Albion goalkeeper James Beadle. It’s thought that action is being taken on interest in a wide range of players, and it’s also very likely that more unreported alternatives are in the works.

The final step in contract discussions with current players is to tie them up. Di’Shon Bernard, Josh Windass, and Dominic Iorfa all had significant contributions to make during Wednesday’s survival mission the previous season, and talks to retain all three players are ongoing. Reece James (Rotherham United), Will Vaulks (Oxford United), and Lee Gregory (Mansfield Town) are all out, while Barry Bannan and Liam Palmer have signed new deals. It is anticipated that seasoned goalie Cameron Dawson will depart from the team.
