Trinity’s perfect record in the Betfred Championship was preserved with a 36-0 win. They will now aim for more success at home when they take on the Batley Bulldogs in a West Yorkshire rivalry on Sunday.
The DIY Kitchens Stadium visitors have progressed since Powell’s team defeated them 34-14 at Batley in April, and they enter the game fresh off an amazing 24-16 comeback victory at Widnes Vikings, where Wakefield had some difficulties.
They have had many an unexpected victory in the past, but they will go up against a Trinity team that demonstrated all of the game’s elements at Barrow.
“We talked about it being an attitude performance before the game and I thought we did that,” Trinity manager Powell said. “Especially when we were down to 12 men and then down to 11 and we kept them out with how hard we worked for each other.”
It was satisfying in many ways.
“Although it was a rough game at points, the important thing was to win, and it was satisfying for us to keep them scoreless.
“We were playing under a lot of pressure, but we managed to lead 16-0 at the half, and I felt like we continued playing after the break.
“We took some really good opportunities and we were really disciplined when we got into good attacking positions.”
Powell went on, “In the end, we had a good victory, and the zero at any point in the game is good.
“Before the game, I had pushed the boys to tighten up our defense a little bit. We’ve given up a lot of points lately, so I thought it was amazing that we were able to maintain that level of defense under some serious pressure.”
Ambitious Wakefield Trinity bring in more Super League talent for 2025
While all is going on, Trinity is focusing on next year and has been actively recruiting. According to recruitment manager Ste Mills, they have signed Cameron Scott and Olly Russell for 2025, and there are still more to come.
“We still have a lot more to announce,” he stated. Not only are we still working on a few items, but we’re four or five players away from what we’ve already acquired that hasn’t been revealed.
“We think we’re assembling a pretty good team for next year, so it’s an exciting moment for everyone,”
