A star agrees deal to stay with Hereford FC
Hereford FC’s Kyle Howkins (right) has reached an agreement to stay.
Kyle Howkins, a central defender, has signed a fresh contract to play for Hereford again the next year.
The six-foot five-inch defender, who has been a key member of Hereford’s defence this season, received an offer to stay from manager Paul Caddis.
Despite experiencing some injury issues, Howkins played in 34 games for the team in the previous campaign.
After beginning his career at West Bromwich Albion, the 28-year-old went out on loan to play for teams including Kidderminster, Mansfield, Cambridge, and Port Vale.
After making an impression on Michael Flynn, the League Two team’s boss at the time, he was then signed by Newport County.
But Howkins suffered a hamstring injury during their season-opening game, which knocked him down the ladder and forced him to be loaned out to Solihull Moors.
He missed two years of football due to an ACL injury, but Paul Caddis gave him another opportunity to shine during the preseason the previous year.
The defender proved himself worthy of a contract with the Bulls, which was then extended for an additional season.
As stated on the team’s website, Caddis expressed his satisfaction with Kyle’s decision to commit to the football team.
Above all, I respect Kyle as a person. Before joining us, Kyle had not kicked a ball in anger in a full year. At the end of the season, he was our sixth-most-frequented player across all competitions.
“For his mental toughness and strength, I have the utmost respect and admiration.” He’s a major presence for us and a well-liked figure in and around the changing area.
“I’m excited to work with Kyle again, and I think he’ll be a key member of the team this coming season.”
