DEAL IN PROGRESS: Southampton ‘Keen’ to Sign Danny Ings Alongside Adam Lallana

The Saints are willing to bring back two familiar faces ahead of their Premier League return

Following their promotion to the Premier League last weekend, Southampton is reportedly eager to recruit former striker Danny Ings, per talkSPORT.

After defeating Leeds 1-0 in the Championship play-off final, Saints were promoted, and they are now looking to add players to try and extend their time in the top division.

After signing a £15 million contract in 2023, Ings, who was a member of the team from 2018 to 2021, has found it difficult to get back into form for West Ham this season, managing to score just one league goal in 390 minutes of action.

According to talkSPORT, the 31-year-old, who Noel Whelan described as a “phenomenal finisher,” may be seeking for more playing time next season and may even be returning to the south coast.

The centre forward scored 46 goals in 100 games across all competitions during his previous successful stint at Southampton.

Ings might team up with Adam Lallana, a former Saints player who is apparently in negotiations to rejoin as the midfielder is expected to depart Brighton during the next transfer window.

Southampton and Lallana are “in talks.”
Another former St. Mary’s star might be making a comeback.

Like Luton did the previous season when they signed Ross Barkley and Andros Townsend, Southampton appears to be seeking moves for experienced stars in the wake of their promotion to the Premier League.

Talks to bring Lallana back to the Saints are still underway. Lallana was a member of the team for 14 years altogether before leaving in 2014 to join Liverpool.

He played for the Saints for eight seasons in the first squad, making 256 appearances and tallying 65 goals.

Now that he and Liverpool have won both the Premier League and the Champions League, the 36-year-old is considering going back to his birthplace.

Adam Lallana Southampton Stats (2006-2014)
Competition Games Goals Assists
Premier League 68 12 11
Championship 87 13 15
League One 80 23 15
FA Cup 13 5 3
EFL Cup 12 5 1

In their successful bid for promotion, Russell Martin’s side relied on two centre-forwards, Adam Armstrong and Che Adams, and are now looking to bring in more proven goal threats to maintain their attacking style of play in the top flight. Southampton went down last year after scoring just 36 goals in the Premier League.
