DEAL: ‘Ready for the challenge’ – Saints keeper Wright ‘excited’ for Yeovil Town loan

Yeovil Town Football Club - SIGNING | Ollie Wright signs on loan

Southampton’s promising young goalkeeper, Ollie Wright, has expressed his eagerness to tackle a new challenge after completing a season-long loan move to Yeovil Town in the Vanarama National League. The 21-year-old shot-stopper joins Yeovil following a successful stint at National League South side Worthing last season, where he played a pivotal role in their journey to the playoff final.

Reflecting on his decision to join Yeovil, Wright emphasized his excitement and readiness to contribute to the team’s ambitions. In his first interview since joining the Glovers, Wright revealed, “I’m excited to be here and I’m excited to get going. I had some interest, but coming here was a no-brainer for me.”

Wright highlighted that Yeovil’s playing style under the manager aligns well with his strengths as a goalkeeper. Being a local lad also played a significant factor in his decision-making process. “From speaking with the gaffer, the style of play he plays suits me. Being a local lad as well makes it a no-brainer,” he explained.

The young goalkeeper expressed enthusiasm about reuniting with his friend Dylan Morgan at Yeovil, indicating their camaraderie would be a positive factor in his integration into the team. “It will be nice to play with Dylan again. He is a close mate of mine and it’s been a while. I’m excited,” Wright shared.

Yeovil Town left a positive impression on Wright when he visited last season with Worthing, contributing to his decision to move to the club. “I remember coming here last season and thinking ‘This is a good place to play football.’ I’m ready to make it up to the fans after my game with Worthing here last season,” he said with a smile.

Looking ahead, Wright is focused on embracing the challenge presented by competing in the National League and is determined to showcase his skills to help Yeovil Town achieve success on the pitch. “I’m ready for the challenge. I’m ready to showcase my skills and what I’m about. The most important thing is helping the team win games,” he affirmed.

Wright’s arrival at Yeovil Town marks a significant step in his career development as he aims to gain valuable experience at a higher level of competition, furthering his aspirations to eventually compete at the top tier of English football. His enthusiasm and determination are sure to make him a valuable asset to the Glovers in the upcoming season.
