DEAL: Terrion Arnold of the Lions Signs Rookie Deal, Puts NFL on Notice

Terrion Arnold

Terrion Arnold, a rookie cornerback for the Detroit Lions, stated at the NFL Combine that he is faster than what he demonstrated.

Terren Arnold, a rookie cornerback, has far more wealth now than he had a week prior. Arnold signed his rookie contract on June 13, according to Dave Birkett of The Detroit Free Press. The deal is for $14.34 million over the course of the following four seasons.

The final rookie to sign a contract with the Detroit Lions was Arnold. At the team’s minicamp, he addressed the media, but he didn’t seem worried about whether he would sign his contract. Arnold focused his own speed instead.

People say, “I didn’t know he was that fast,” when they see Arnold run the 40, according to Birkett. “When I ran the 40, I pulled my hamstring the day before running the 40,” Arnold added. “Well, people don’t see anything like that, but I ran the 40 with a bruised hamstring. People are ignorant of such information.

Arnold’s 40-yard sprint timing of 4.5 seconds placed him in the middle of the cornerback field at the NFL combine. However, Arnold appeared faster than that time indicated this spring, with his hamstring closer to 100% during offseason exercises.

During minicamp, Birkett noted that Arnold played snaps with the Lions first team defense as the No. 2 cornerback, opposing seasoned player Carlton Davis.

What Arnold, a rookie, will bring to Lions Secondary

The question of whether the Lions will move up for Arnold or another top cornerback in the 2024 class was a topic of discussion among pundits in the two to three months leading up to the NFL draft.

The Lions did move up, but not by much—from No. 29 to No. 24—waiting for Arnold until they could bear to wait any more.
On April 25, Lions general manager Brad Holmes stated, “Never thought he would be there, but we couldn’t be more thrilled.”

Arnold, according to Holmes, was the team’s best cornerback in the class.

Arnold had a stellar collegiate career at Alabama. In 2023, he played as a redshirt sophomore and showed off his incredible athleticism by recording 6.5 tackles for loss and 5 interceptions.

In 2023, Arnold had 12 pass defenses as well.
