Latest Derby County news from Derbyshire Live brings you what is happening with the Rams striker who is on loan at the Heed
Gateshead failed to reach the Football League’s entry standards, denying Derby County striker Dajaune Brown the chance to gain promotion.
The Heed secured their position in the National League playoffs, with Rob Elliott’s team hoping for a repeat of their FA Trophy victory at Wembley Stadium.
However, the National League issued a statement today stating that the team had failed to get a 10-year security term at its stadium, which is required for EFL membership. The club requested it from Gateshead Council, but it was denied despite a letter of support from the National League.
Gateshead had also filed an appeal with the EFL regarding their decision, however it was denied during an arbitration session. According to the rules, the National League can no longer allow Gateshead to compete in the playoffs, hence Altrincham has received a bye.
The statement read: “The National League is extremely disappointed to announce that, following an EFL decision, Gateshead Football Club has failed to meet the entry criteria for membership in the EFL.” As a result of the judgement, Gateshead will not be able to participate in the play-offs this season.
“This decision is predicated on the club’s failure to achieve the 10-year security of tenure at their stadium, which was required for new teams requesting to enter the EFL on March 1, 2024.
“The club demanded that Gateshead Council provide a 10-year tenure security. This was declined. The National League wrote to the council in support of the club’s application, emphasising the consequences for the team, its supporters, and the nearby community if security was not provided.
“Unfortunately, the response obtained did not support the club’s standards, putting the club at risk of being denied membership in the EFL and thus forfeiting any chance to compete in the play-offs.
“On March 28, 2024, after the deadline for EFL licence applications had passed, the Council presented choices to the team. However, in the judgement of the EFL, these solutions did not meet their needs.
“The National League submitted objections to the EFL and is dissatisfied with the outcome, but recognises that the admission requirements are clearly specified in the EFL rules.
“The National League supported the club’s appeal, which was rejected by an EFL arbitration panel.
“While the club may consider additional challenges, the present position under the regulations is that the club will be unable to compete in the play-offs this season. According to the rules, the club cannot be replaced, and they will be pulled from the scheduled fixture on Tuesday, April 23, 2024. As a result, Altrincham will receive a bye to the semi-finals.
The news will be devastating for Brown, who has played a key role in the club’s push for a top-seven finish. He has scored nine goals since joining the club on a youth loan from Derby in January. He is already scheduled to make one Wembley appearance for the Heed in the FA Trophy. This will take place next month.
