Josh Render, a 23-year-old custodian, has joined the Holy Blues, and they are thrilled to reveal this news. After returning from playing football in Australia, the former Sheffield Wednesday prospect concluded the season with Gainsborough. He did well enough to secure a contract for the 2024–2025 season.Josh made his Trinity debut during the match at the Kal Group Stadium against Hyde United as a second-half substitute. Later, he made his debut in the away game against Matlock Town. With the game perfectly poised at the moment, Render made several crucial saves as the Blues ran out 4-0 winners. Once more, the ‘keeper experienced success after substituting in the season’s final match, helping the team defeat the Champions, Radcliffe, 3-2.
Render is focused on what lies ahead for the team and himself as they look forward to the upcoming season: “I hope we can build on what we did at the end of last season, and be pushing for those play-offs.” which we absolutely can, in my opinion. I’m excited to resume preseason and lay the groundwork for the upcoming campaign.”
The custodian, who joined Sheffield Wednesday at the age of 13, progressed through the academy and signed a professional contract, has a stellar background. Render was poised for success after making about a dozen appearances in the league and cup team, but he decided to spend a year in Australia instead: “Playing a full season in the Australian football second division was fantastic for me.” There, I was awarded Players’ Player of the Year. After that, I returned and trained with Doncaster for a few months, spending the remainder of the season with Gainsborough, and now we are here.”
Along with Render, Dylan Wharton, a promising player from Sheffield United, began the previous season before Callum Yam made an appearance while on loan from the Blades. Trinity then travelled across Sheffield to Wednesday in order to hire Luke Jackson. Jackson sustained a strange injury at Marske that prevented him from playing the entire season. Lewis Butroid, an outfielder, entered the gaGETme to finish it out, but it was later removed from the record books. Prior to Wharton’s return on New Year’s Day, U21 custodian Ethan Cowan made a few outings in County Cup matches, while Ben Bottomley from Doncaster Rovers was the next player to join on loan.
Following Wharton’s concussion, Wilcox had Dave Robson loaned out to them from Hull City for a month, and the two of them finished the season together.
Josh comes to Gainsborough Trinity with a warm welcome, having initially gone unnoticed on his arrival. We look forward to working with him again this season. Cheers to a productive stay at DN21!
